Giacomo grimaldi | barolo, Piedmont

Giacomo Grimaldi is a benchmark family estate based in the village of Barolo, with deep roots in the Langhe and a reputation built quietly on consistency, precision, and trust. For decades, the Grimaldi name has been associated with wines that speak clearly of place, favoured by sommeliers and collectors who value authenticity over theatrics.

The family works from some of the Langhe’s most reliable and best-performing crus, notably Terlo and Ravera. These sites consistently deliver Nebbiolo of structure, energy, and depth, and form the backbone of the estate’s identity. The Barolo Classico, drawn from multiple parcels, is a masterclass in balance and proportion. For us, it remains one of the strongest value propositions in the region: in great vintages, it competes comfortably with wines priced three times higher, offering true Barolo character without inflation or excess.

Stylistically, Giacomo Grimaldi sits in a rare and convincing middle ground. New oak is used, but never to dominate, allowing freshness, tannin structure, and terroir to lead. The result is Barolo that is neither strictly traditional nor overtly modern, but confidently its own. This philosophy is now being shaped by the next generation, with Alberto Grimaldi increasingly taking the reins in the cellar, refining detail while preserving the house style.

We work with Giacomo Grimaldi because their wines align closely with our values: site-first, honest, culturally grounded Barolo, built for both the table and the cellar.
